I couldn’t get warm today. I was so very grateful for the only warm spot I could find in my home. The winter sun streaming in to my kitchen. Believe it or not, I simply sat in that patch of warmth and had my morning coffee. Bliss.

I am grateful for a sweet little button nosed cavoodle puppy called Teddy. Teddy has been on my mind since we met him yesterday, so much so that I have been googling cavoodles all day.  I am grateful because Teddy has made me realise even more how much my family needs a home, a real home that is ours, with a dog and all the restrictions and hassles that brings, but also the love and the belonging. Here for now. But Teddy had also confused me a tad, because our Teddy was going to be a chow chow. (Well, the girls and I had decided. Sort of).

It is beautiful how the early morning sun settles on my chair at the moment. I love my chair. I love it because it reminds me of years of gentle shared moments in Sonnie’s chair on the game farm, the moments I wanted to capture, I love it because Lynn made it for me, I love it because it was one of the last gifts from home, I love it because it envelops me and makes me feel safe. Yes, even little. Today I am grateful for my chair and how it makes me feel.

I am grateful for shiny floors and a sparkling apartment. Especially because for the first time in over two years, it wasn’t done by me. I can’t believe how much I took having my home cleaned by someone other than myself, every single day, for granted. I am grateful that now I no longer do.

24 April. I am grateful for the feeling on entering our apartment after 20 odd hours travel. From the flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg to the flight from Johannesburg to Sydney to the flight from Sydney to Brisbane to the car transfer to Noosa, arriving home here felt like heaven. Especially after dumping our 70+kgs of luggage. Also grateful no airport officials had a problem with my 30 wraps, 50 necklaces, one years supply of Zoladex implants and Femara tablets also included. What was I thinking.

There is a marked difference to my visit back to South Africa this year. Now I am grateful to say that most places know what a flat white is. I no longer have to order a latte in a cup not a glass with a double shot of espresso sort of thing, or a cappuccino but without the foam or sprinkles. And today Sandi and I went to The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock and I am grateful for the best cup of coffee I have had here to date. From a little company that only does flat whites. Perhaps this is still home after all.
