Before we came to Noosa, I had never heard of a Pandanus Palm. I love them. The sight of a Pandanus Palm hanging off the cliff over the ocean is a sight to behold. I am grateful today that I got to walk amongst them and talk and talk and talk. I am grateful for the beauty that surrounded us. And for the fact that my friend and I can talk nonstop and still have so much to say.

I feel a little sad today. And I know that’s okay. I also know why I’m sad. Because my friend is. And I don’t know how to help her. And because I know only she can help herself. And I feel a little guilty. Because the very thing thing I take the most for granted is the very thing my friend does not have. And so badly wants. I know this because she told me.The stability of us. Of B and I. It seems so cruel to give advice on how lucky she is to have what she has, and to be so grateful for what she has been blessed with, from the comfort of my solid unit of two. I am grateful to her for reminding me of the beauty of what we have. But I know, as I know she does, only too well, nothing lasts forever. So my promise to her, and to myself, is never ever to take us for granted again. To see the beauty we are. To see the beauty we have. But I only promise this, if she promises too. If she promises never ever again to give up on herself. To see the beauty she has. To see the beauty she is.

What a wonderful moment this morning when we realised a beautiful Galah was in the tree above us. I am grateful to be living in a country where cockatoos fly free. I am grateful to Grant for instilling a love for them in us via a soft toy long before we even knew what they were. Or where we’d be. I am grateful for the moment to enjoy its beauty and am determined to forever be amazed by their abundant presence.

I am overwhelmed today. By B, by Kate and Jem, by my wonderful family near and far, by my friends, by the absolutely exquisite day today, simply by it all. I am so grateful that today I turned 46 yet I felt like a kid in a candy store. Overwhelmed by the beauty that surrounds me. (And yes that does include my new MacBook Air).

A thing of beauty. B’s words, not mine, on seeing a full drawer of Nespresso pods this morning. He is right, it is a thing of beauty. I am grateful today not only for the full drawer, the wonderful aroma, the best coffee at the touch of a button, the no mess but mostly for the moments to come.
