Every morning when I drive over the bridge near Quamby Place heading to Hastings I see a pelican on the top of the street light. Everytime. I am sure it’s not the same pelican but I like to think it is. I am grateful to this pelican for always making me smile. I know it isn’t an uncommon sight in Noosa but it is one that will never fail to delight me. I am also grateful to the person who took this shot, because mine was crap.

Today we spent a gentle morning with my dad’s sisters and their husbands. I know times have been very tough for them all and was so very grateful to see them all well and settled in their new homes. I was especially grateful to witness the love and concern they have for my dad. And he for them. No matter the years past, the different lives spent, the different journeys travelled, family is family. And for that I am grateful. I am especially grateful for the the reminder from the stray cat who made us all smile as he enjoyed the sun and the garden today. The reminder that there is always something to smile about. Always.

Today I am grateful for a smile. From Sandy. The beautiful calm presence that makes my coffee most mornings. No matter how grumpy I am, she always lifts me with her smile. And no matter how grumpy she might be, she always has time for a smile. And she always greets me by my name. And she makes my coffee exactly how I like it. Without me having to say a word.
